You cannot send cold emails through Clay.
Although Clay is popular with many cold emailers, it is not a sending tool.
In this article, I cover everything that you need to know about Clay, and share whether I think you should use it in your campaigns:
- What is Clay?
- Can you send cold emails through Clay?
- Should you use Clay?
- Final thoughts
Clay is a tool that allows you to add leads to a spreadsheet, and then “enrich” them by using 100+ tools that integrate with Clay.
What this means is that you can find information about your leads in one central place, and then add this information to your leads in the Clay spreadsheet.
For example, you can add leads to your Clay spreadsheet, and then use “Claygent” (AI powered scraper) to visit the website of each lead, and then return information about each lead.
You could ask Claygent to show which of your leads are SOC-II compliant. It would then update the Clay spreadsheet to show which leads are SOC-II compliant (after visiting all of their websites).
The above example is one of many possible scenarios.
Most people struggle to understand what Clay does due to the large number of potential use cases.
The easiest way to think about Clay is this:
Find information about your leads by adding them to a spreadsheet and then using one of the 100+ integrated tools.
You cannot send cold emails through Clay.
Clay allows you to find information about your leads, and then add this information to your leads in a spreadsheet.
After you have “enriched” your leads in Clay, you still need to use a specialized cold email sending tool (like Emailchaser) to send your emails.
If you are a lead generation agency that needs to do a lot of complicated work flows to enrich leads, then it makes sense to use Clay.
If you are a normal business that is launching a few cold email campaigns, then you do not need to use Clay. Instead, you should focus on building an “evergreen campaign”.
I rarely use Clay, however, I can see why some people find value in it.
You cannot send emails through Clay because it is not a cold email sending tool.
When sending cold emails, you should use a specialized sending tool like Emailchaser.
For 95% of businesses, I recommend that you don’t use Clay, and instead, learn how to launch an “evergreen campaign”. You can learn how to do this in my article How To Create An Evergreen Cold Email Campaign.
